Why Temporary Car Insurance Could Be Beneficial
Are you considering taking a vacation to a foreign country? Do you plan on driving a car when you get there? If so, you should know that most travel agencies are not going to remind you that you need to buy auto insurance when you arrive to your travel destination. In order to have a good vacation and a safe driving experience in another country, you will want to consider getting temporary car insurance. Temporary insurance coverage, sometimes referred to as “temp cover” provides drivers with enough auto insurance so that they can stay insured throughout the time they drive on their vacation. Most people end up purchasing policies that cover them for less than 30 days.
How much does temporary car insurance cost? The cost of this type of coverage will depend on a number of different factors including: your age, the vehicle model that you plan on driving, as well as the type of coverage that you will be getting. Most people that get temporary insurance end up buying comprehensive car insurance policies so that everything is covered. If you get less than comprehensive coverage (e.g. third party only), you will not be covered for certain damages as a result of vandalism, theft, and/or animals. In my opinion, it is probably better to be on the safe side than end up being underinsured.
Who is eligible to get temporary auto insurance? In most cases, you must be over the age of 25 years old and have a clean driving record (free of convictions). You also must have a valid driver’s license and a fairly decent credit score. As long as you meet the requirements of the company that you decide to buy a policy through, you will be able to stay insured on your entire vacation. Never risk going without insurance when vacationing because all it takes is one minor accident or bump and you could end up paying a lot of money out of pocket for damages.
