Understanding tummy tuck liposuction

Using cosmetic surgery to contour our body is now becoming increasing common. It is not only effective but is much more convenient option for the busy adult. Among the different areas, the tummy is the most popular area where cosmetic surgery is performed on.

To help contour the tummy, two common procedures are often used: tummy tuck and liposuction. The former is used for skin removal while the latter is for extracting the fat deposits.

For a patient that has very little fats but has excessive skin due to pregnancy or other reasons, tummy tuck is the right option. This procedure will first remove about 30% to 50% of a patient’s skin. The surgeon will then stretch the remaining the skin over the tummy area to make it look tighter. This process will also remove to remove any stretch marks that the patient might have.

If the patient has excessive fat deposits in the tummy area, liposuction would be a better choice. Currently, there are a number of liposuction techniques that a patient can consider.  Tumescent liposuction is the traditional method whereby surgeons will first inject a tumescent solution to narrow the blood vessel before using hollow cannulas to extract the fats. Newer methods such as vaser liposuction will attempt to first loosen the fats using sound waves so that the extraction process will be faster and less damaging to the patient. There is also the noninvasive technique such as zerona laser liposuction which uses laser to stimulate the fatty acids in a patient’s body such that they will move to the empty spaces between the human cells and be removed via normal human discharge.

Sometimes, a patient might ask for a combination of tummy tuck and liposuction to be performed concurrently. Not only does such a combination help to remove stomach fats and tighten the skin but it is also cheaper compared to playing separately for liposuction and tummy tuck cost.
