Outdoor garden lights can do a lot to improve on the looks of a yard space. Positioning of the lights is important to creating the kind of ambience that many homeowners wish to convey when they have a house gathering of family and friends. Uplighting is one of those home lighting ideas that involves illuminating something in a way that creates a bit of mystery as to the location of the light source. How many times have you driven by a building brightly illuminated in the night by uplighting but not able to pinpoint the actual source of the light.
This is created intentionally to give the observer pause to observe the beauty of whatever is being illumined be it a large building or a tree. As garden lights go, uplighting fixtures are usually self contained fixtures that are waterproof so that they can be buried in the earth. The power line is run underground so there are no tell tale signs as to its location. This unit does not need to be buried too far underground, just enough so that the fixture does not show. You will want it near enough to the surface in case you need to change the light bulb or extract the housing to do maintenance work or to simply replace it.
If an up light is properly installed and is properly aimed at its subject then when it comes on at night it looks as though it is being emitted from nowhere since the fixture itself cannot be located. This type of lighting is great for illuminating a wall or escarpment since the focal length of the light is being full used and lands squarely on the wall. This technique can also be used for trees to great effect, especially with the use of colored lighting. You can get colored gels to install in the lighting fixture and change the mood of the up lighting immediately.
