With access to the Internet you are never more than a couple of clicks away from a cheap movie rental deal. There are lots of companies in this market so competition is quite strong, and many companies offer introductory offers of less than $5 a month. The only things you need to get DVDs from Netflixs (the market leader), is a free account at their website, and a means of paying your monthly subscription.
I’m not suggesting you should go straight to Netflix and sign up with them, because there are many good companies out they to choose from – they often have great introductory deals, so it will pay you to spend a little time shopping around for the service that suits you best.
There are some wide-ranging differences between the deals available, the price you pay will depend on a few things such as the number of DVDs you want to receive in one go. Also check the companies policy on late fees, my advice would be to go with a company that don’t charge these fees as they can become quite significant if you fall foul of them. In essence I’m really just trying to say ALWAYS READ THE SMALL PRINT!
Renting movies this way doesn’t mean the end of your local rental store. Blockbusters online are trying to combine the two ways of doing business. With their plans you can order your DVDs online, receive them through the mail and return them to one of their bricks and mortar stores when you have finished with them.
To start off with you might like to take advantage of the free trial periods that most of the companies offer. Netflex rentals have a two week trial period where you can request DVDs to check how their service runs. If you don’t like their service, make sure you cancel the trial before the end date or they will start to bill you.
