If you are the type of person who finds themselves constantly on the go, carrying around a large bulky laptop can often be more of an inconvenience than anything. In today’s day and age, staying connected to friends, family, and co-workers has become more important than ever, which is why laptops are so popular. However, there is a small sub-division of laptops known as laptop notebooks that are designed to be ultra portable and light weight, making staying connected when you are out and about easier than ever.
Mini notebook computers are often less than 14″ inches and weigh less than five pounds. These sub-compact notebooks previously featured Windows XP Home Edition as their operating system, but they got their start in popularity as machines designed to run Linux. In fact, the Asus Eee PC model was the birth of the notebook and featured Linux as its main operating system. As the importance and portability of these devices skyrocketed, Windows became an option. While XP is still offered on some systems, most are moving toward the newer Windows 7 Starter Edition, which has been specifically designed to run on laptop notebooks.
Cost of Netbooks
The cost associated with these small computer depends on several factors, including the manufacturer, the operating system, whether or not the computer features a traditional hard drive or a solid state drive, and the size of the computer. Baseline laptop computers that retail around 199 are typically 8.9″ dimensions, feature Linux as an operating system, and may or may not be made by lesser known manufacturers. Asus, Acer, and MSI tend to offer affordable netbook options, while Sony, HP, and Apple’s netbook offerings tend to be much more expensive even at the neighborhood mini notebook computers store.
Standard Netbook Sizes
The standard size for the smallest netbooks available on the market is 8.9″. These netbooks generally weigh under five pounds and may include a non-standard keyboard that takes some getting used to in order to use effectively. For example, early MSI netbooks placed the Fn key where the CTRL key would typically be placed, which lead to some complaints from users. This has been rectified in later models. The 10.9″ model has become the standard amongst netbooks, as it is not as small as the smallest netbooks, but it is still smaller than the 16″ laptop range in which most laptops begin.
The cost and size of laptop notebooks makes them a great option for having a computer that is extremely portable and easily accessible while you are on the go as well.
