One of the most important features of any bed is the frame. Frames are what keep the bed stable and grounded, and also add style and personality to it. Depending on where your bed is going to be located, who will be using the bed, and what type of material you prefer, you may consider wood or metal for your canopy bed.
Wood vs metal – aesthetic considerations
Wood is typically very attractive as a material for the frame of canopy beds. For this reason, it’s very common as a choice for beds. There are also cheaper types of wood frames which are usually reinforced with other material like plastic or laminate, and these can be a good option if price is a consideration.
Aluminum and other metal beds can be slightly less attractive but sturdier. Depending on the style of room you’re putting the bed into, metal may also go better with the aesthetic sense of the room. It is a good, solid frame for canopy beds and isn’t too expensive.
Strength considerations
If your bed is going to be used by children, the strength of the frame is something you want to think about. Children will probably jump on the bed when they have friends over for sleepovers. Any bed undergoing repeated jumping and pressure needs to have a good frame, and metal will inevitably hold up better than wood in most cases.
However, if the bed is only going to be used by adults then wood is just fine for the frame. Wood is more aesthetically pleasing and still holds up well. It is also easily customizable. If there won’t be any children on the bed, wood frames are a good choice for canopy beds.
The two main things to think about when picking a bed frame are strength and style. If you have children using the bed, opt for strength; if your bed will only contain adults, wood is a good choice.
