Spring Snow Goose Hunting 2010

If you want to be a successful snow goose hunter, you should be willing to embrace tough weather conditions. The reason for this is that conditions like rain and snow will make it difficult for your snow goose flocks to see that your decoys are not real geese. They will see a spread of birds that appear to be real, and they will be more likely to fly down and join them than if you were hunting in extremely clear conditions.

When it comes to snow goose hunting, ff possible, find out where it was that the snow geese were feeding on the previous day. You may need to plan ahead and find this out for yourself by investigating their possible feeding areas. Once you have this information, you can place your decoys in the feeding area on your hunting day. The snow geese are more likely to join decoys in a familiar feeding area than in an unfamiliar one.

The number of decoys you choose to use is a matter that depends on where you plan to do your hunting. If you are planning to set up your decoys in water, then you can achieve a very realistic effect with only a few decoys. On the other hand, if you are hunting in an open field, then it is a good idea to set up windsock decoys. If you set up full-body decoys that don’t move anywhere, then you will not create a realistic looking snow goose set up. The reason for this is that snow geese tend to be on the move when out in a field, so you want to have snow goose decoys that move. Now, getting back to the original issue of how many decoys to use, you will need to use a lot more decoys out on the field than in the water simply because you are using less realistic decoys (the windsock decoys) on the field. With more realistic decoys, you don’t need as many of them to lure the birds.

If you’re planning on doing some spring snow goose hunting in particular, then it is fairly important that you get your snow goose call correct. The call is less important in the fall, and in some areas calls are even illegal in the fall. It’s best to use an electronic call device, as these will produce the best results.
