My Adventures In Travelling With Baby and Buster
I recently had a baby, Olivia, and she is cute as a button! She is now two weeks old and it was time to start taking her out of the house. Our first trip was to Grandma’s house, because I thought that would be the easiest! But what I discovered is that travelling with an infant is never easy.
It all started with figuring out how to get the infant travel system strapped into the car. I know for sure it was in there once on the way home from the hospital, but I didn’t put it in myself and we ended up moving the car seat part back into the stroller, so I could take walks with Olivia. Let me just tell you, the first time you strap in an infant car seat, it is NOT easy. That being said… after struggling for a while with the car seat, I got it into the car properly.
By this time, of course Olivia was SCREAMING. This was very distressing and I stopped to nurse her, so now my trip which usually takes 20 minutes tops is up to an hour and a half, and I haven’t even left the house!!! UGH!
Of course, I also want to take my dog, Buster, with me. My mom lives next to woods and taking him gives him the rare opportunity to run, run, run. Thankfully one of my portable dog crates was already in the car, so all I had to do was load Buster in, and get Olivia in her car seat and we were on our way.
We made it just fine to my Mom’s house, and had a great time! But I am convinced that babies do not like car seats, or at least Olivia doesn’t. She screamed the whole way there, but once I picked her up she was fine. I think that will be our last trip out of the house together in a while. Next time I will let my mom come to us!
