If you are looking for a secondhand vehicle for sale, one of the easiest ways to find one is to get online and type ‘Craigslist used cars for sale by owner‘.  You will also need to put in what state or county you live in and voila!  Up will come a good number of secondhand vehicles for sale.  The trick is, how can you tell which one would be a good buy?  Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind:

- Always check the vehicle out thoroughly.  You should never settle for just the picture shown on Craigslist.  Look the car over carefully, check whether the outside and inside of the vehicle are in good condition.
- Even more importantly than checking out how the vehicle looks is making sure that it runs well.  Most owners will allow you to take it on a test drive (with them) so you can get a feel for how well the car runs.  If you hear any odd noises or something does not seem to be working as well as it should, then ask about it.  Problems with transmission or major repairs of some kind can be quite expensive.  If the car makes a noise and you are not sure whether it is something serious or not, call a mechanic and ask about it.  If you describe what kind of noise it was, often a mechanic can give you a general idea of what may be causing it and if it is something that is easy and cheap to repair or not.
- Also ask the owner how much mileage it has on it.  Cars with a lot of mileage are more likely to have serious problems than those with lower mileage, even if the car has been well taken care of.
