Firstly, where in the world is Puerto Galera?

It’s in the Philippines!

The Philippines is made up of almost 7000 islands. Puerto Galera is a town on one of those islands, Oriental Mindoro. It is roughly 3 hours from the capital city Manila.

Why would you go there? If you like to take it easy, soak up the sun, enjoy the beach and otherwise do nothing at all, then Puerto Galera is for you.

So how to get to Puerto Galera?

Here are the 3 easy steps. The steps assume you are beginning from Manila Airport no later than 1pm.

Buendia Bus Station. Manila Airport is vastly inferior to the standard of international airports. There are no comfortable waiting lounges or extensive food courts. Once you’re through immigration, walk straight outside the airport. Look for a white taxi (the yellow ones are extremely expensive). Ask for Buendia Bus Station and agree on the fare before you get into the cab. Do not put your bags in the trunk. Some taxi drivers have been known to drive off with your bags. If this happens, you’ll never see your bags again. Don’t let that happen while you learn how to get to Puerto Galera.
Batangas Pier. The taxi ride will take around 10 or 15 minutes. At Buendia Bus Station, look for a bus. There are a bucketload of them. Ask around the bus going to Batangas Pier. Ask for the Express bus – it’s faster and more comfortable. The express bus will have “Calabarzon” written on the front. Double-check with the driver that it definitely goes to Batangas Pier. Climb on and dive into your travel book.
Muelle Pier. The ride to Batangas Pier will take roughly 3 hours. Once there, go to the main terminal and buy a ticket to Puerto Galera. Muelle Pier is the most central spot, though ask for Sabang or White Beach if that is where you want to go. You will need to buy a boat ticket, the terminal fee and the environmental fee. The total cost will be about 280 pesos. Soon, you’ll be in the land of hot Filipina girls, cold beer and fantastic scuba diving!

Everyone knows that the happiest place on earth is Disneyland. Mix a local beach, like Newport beach with the magic of Disney and you have the perfect vacation. Ask any NFL player when they win the Super Bowl, ask any child that is lucky enough to have experienced the magic. Disney understood imagination, creativity, and enchantment. But the doors to Disneyland opened in absolute disaster in 1955. The opening day was 101 degrees ferinheight and a plumber strike made the water fountains inoperable. With the limited amount of water available, Disney had to choose between water fountains and flushing toilets. He made the tough decision.

Pepsi was the soda sponsor for the new amusement park and many people complained that the lack of running water fountains was a sick attempt at getting them to purchase soda. Celebrities were slotted to make appearances every 2 hours, the scheduling was a mess, and they all showed up at once. Opening day was an invitation only affair but counterfeited tickets were in abundance. Eleven thousand people were invited, 28,154 showed up.

The asphalt was poured just that morning and was so soft that ladies heels stuck in the mess. Fantasyland, Adventureland and Frontierland were closed part of the day due to a gas leak in Fantasyland.

The press had a hay day; opening day was a complete fiasco. So much so, that in subsequent years, Disney choose to hold anniversaries commemorations on July 18, instead of the actual opening day of July 17. The actually opening day of July 18 to the public went smoother. People started lining up at 2:00 AM and the first three guest received lifetime passes to not only California’s Disneyland but all Disneyland’s, worldwide.
