The gyms around you may offer pools in which you can swim lakes. You may even be able to find a public pool of water like a lake or a pond that you feel comfortable swimming in on a daily basis.
When you decide to swim in the ocean you want to make sure that you are safe in the water. The water can be very cold and you want to be properly equipped to deal with the temperature of the water each time that you go out.
You should also make sure that you avoid swimming with the seals. Sharks prey on seals and if they prey on a pack that you are swimming with the shark will target you because you will be the slowest swimmer in the pack.

Snorkeling is another great water sport that many people enjoy participating in. Typically, people will snorkel in the ocean so that they are able to see the different plant and animal life that is present under the surface.

When you are surfing you want to make sure that you have a board that is conducive to your body. Your board should allow you to learn how to surf or participate in the type of surfing that works the best for your skill level.
If you are just starting to surf you may want to start by renting a board. This way you can try out the sport and if you do not like it you will not have lost a lot of money on a board that you will never use again.
