Anxiety can affect a person in so many ways. This is the reason why those who are suffering from this condition are having difficulty leading a normal life. Most anxiety sufferers who are in intimate relationships would admit that they cannot consider themselves to be a “better-half” of their partners because of anxiety disorder. Their frequent bouts with anxiety have almost equally affected their partners who do not have an anxiety disorder. The following are some other aspects of a relationship that are being affected due to anxiety:
- People who are suffering from anxiety will most likely to suffer from financial constraints as well. This is because their anxiety has affected their ability to function well in the workplace. Some people even lost their jobs because of anxiety. Anxiety gives them difficulty in concentrating with their task at hand. Suffering from invasive symptoms of anxiety has also lead them to become less productive at work. As a result, some anxiety sufferers were forced to leave their jobs. Others were even fired from their job because of incompetence and not performing well at work. Hence, their lives were even made more miserable as they no longer have a source of income. Unfortunately, their wives or husbands also suffer from the same predicament of not having enough money to support the family.
- If an individual is suffering from anxiety he will definitely need some emotional support from her husband. But, there are times when the husband will also need some emotional support but can’t find it from their wife who is battling with anxiety. As a result, the other half of the couple who is not having anxiety will become disappointed or bitter. This is why those partners of people with anxiety disorder must take the time out to talk to a trusted friend about what he is going through. This way, he will be able to receive some emotional support which his anxious wife cannot provide. If possible, the husband or the wife who is not an anxiety sufferer must also seek professional help. Experienced counselors will be able to teach you some coping skills on having a partner with anxiety disorder.
- The way that couples communicate with each other will also be affected if one of them is suffering from anxiety. If a wife or husband is constantly plagued with anxiety it would be very difficult for their partners to communicate with them. This is because anxiety makes a person easily irritated and angry. As a result, their partners will find it impossible to ask help from them regarding some issues involving their relationship and the entire family as well. This is when couples need to join some support groups with people who are going through the same ordeal with anxiety.
