Birthday parties are a time for kids to enjoy playing games and eating a lot of unhealthy food. As someone that likes to plan for my children’s guest I have put together some elaborate events that included a theme for the party and games that related to cartoon characters or spy missions. During a party for my son who had just turned 8 my wife put together a spy mission that led kids on an adventure throughout the house and backyard. Culminating in a secret mission to defuse a bomb (some batteries, a small digital clock, a computer circuit board and a block of modeling clay that looked like plastic explosives packed into a briefcase) the party was a lot of work and a huge success. But trying to top that theme was difficult. Seeing that my daughter was invited to a home that had an inflatable bounce house I watched as 10 kids piled into one of the San Jose jumpers and leapt around for 2 hours before opening presents and eating cake.

Astonished at how little work was involved in the planning and execution of the festivities I thought what genius to keep a birthday party simple. Seeing other parents in the neighborhood follow the same outline for putting together their children’s party I have come to the conclusion that this year the least amount of planning and preparation can be done as the invited guests remove their shoes and play outside. I don’t need to put up decorations inside the house or even take the extra trouble to clean up as I can control the party outdoors and bring out the food for my kids that celebrate their birthday in spring. By reserving one of the larger San Jose jumpers my next party is going to be just as successful as any theme I have developed but with a lot less work and parental supervision.

Because snowmobilers have been braving the cold for decades now, they have a pretty solid idea of what it takes to be prepared. For example, a first time snowmobiler might think that all he needs is a pair of insulated coveralls, but an experienced rider will tell you that coveralls are not a good idea. The problem is that coveralls and even insulated coveralls are made from cotton. If you don’t get wet, the insulation they provide should be plenty, but when you go snowmobiling, you just plan on getting wet. Once cotton gets wet, it loses its ability to insulate. A wet pair of coveralls is nothing more than a hypothermia suit.
