Tendons and muscles all over our bodies are very significant in that they enable us to do a wide range of physical activities and movements our whole lives. Sometimes we do not treat these tendons right and end up overusing them and imposing excessive pressure on them and this damages them. If you overuse the arm tendons, you are likely to suffer from tennis elbow, a condition that is characterized by pain, discomfort and inconvenience due to the inability to use the injured arm as high as the shoulder and as low as the fingers. The tennis elbow symptoms may be very obvious but the initial signs are often ignored by sufferers and these include tenderness, soreness and numbness on the injured elbow, pain that may spread to other parts of the arm, inability to coordinate the fingers and the wrist and tiredness on the arm. The pain is often felt on the outer part of the elbow.

Treating the injured tendons in the tennis elbow condition is basically the same as treating any other muscles – providing the necessary environment for them to heal naturally. The arm should not be used especially immediately after the injury and instead a pack of ice or frozen peas should be applied on the injured area to quell inflammation, reduce pain and prevent swelling.

Pain is a serious thing but this can tackled with painkillers. The actual tennis elbow treatment which involves providing conducive healing environment should start immediately. An arm brace can be used to place the arm in the right healing position and kept in that position till the arm heals or the doctor advices otherwise. Healing takes long, mainly depending on the severity of the injury and in some instances, corrective surgery may be undertaken if the injury is very severe. Healing may take two weeks but in severe injuries, it is not uncommon for the arm to take up to two years to heal.
