Bible Colleges: Pros and Cons

There are many different institutions of higher learning to pick from. This can be a lot for a 17 or 18 year old to figure out on their own. Some of the possible choices might include a nearby community college, large state university, a specific career vocational training school, private liberal arts college, or even a Bible college. If you are thinking about the possibility of attending a Bible college. I want to share with you some of the advantages and disadvantages.

First, let’s look at what some of the downsides might be. With some Bible colleges, you have a limited degree offering. Beside the ministry degrees, the school may not offer as many degrees as a larger state university. They also may not have as much financial aid available as some of the larger schools are able to receive through associations, booster clubs, groups, and alumni. One last downside is the accreditation piece. Although more and more bible colleges are getting on board with having their education accredited, there might be a few still lacking this important designation.

Now, let’s consider the upsides. There are actually many upsides. At a Bible college, you get the fortunate opportunity to connect with your Creator and discover the abilities and gifts He has given you. At the same time, you are still receiving a solid education with regular course work such as English, History, and Math. While not as many scholarships are available, tuition is much lower with many religious institutions, making it a great idea for Bible college students to attend a Baptist college for the first to years and then transferring elsewhere if they choose to after obtaining the core classes.

As you can see, the benefits to out weight the disadvantages when you consider attending a Bible college. Whatever you decide, choose to include God in your plans and use Him in helping you select the right direction for your life.
