Beautify your home with outside lighting

We put a lot of thought and planning into our inside lighting. We make sure we have sufficient lighting in the kitchen, bathrooms and family room. Take a look outside at your yard when it is dark. Do you have enough lighting? Do you have any lighting? Can you use more lighting? Most of us probably can update our outside lighting with additional fixtures.

There are many types of lighting options available for your yard and the exterior of your home. You need lights by your front door. If there is enough room, you should have one light at each side of your front door. At your back door you can probably get away with just one light. If you have a large, old fashioned front porch, you can have a ceiling fan with a light to add charm to the porch. It is important to be able to have light when needed at your doors. When the doorbell rings, you want to be able to see who is out there. Outside lighting is a safety, as well as a decorative, item.

If you don’t have lights along your walkway, add solar lights and see the difference it makes. If you have a garden filled with beautiful plants and flowers, then you should add some lighting to those areas. If you use solar powered lights, you don’t have to worry about wiring them. Solar lights are very easy to use. They require a battery, that’s about it. Stick them in the ground where you want them. They take several hours to charge up the first time. After that, they go on at dusk and go off at sunrise. Since they don’t require electricity, you can use them in your large flower pots, or near the pool, by the walkway or wherever you can use more outside lighting.

Take inventory, find out what you need and add more functional outside lighting.
