A Digital Caliper Is A Handy Tool
Regardless of what it is you need to measure in the workshop or on the worksite you will find the electronic digital caliper will come in very handy. This is a measuring device that can be used to measure the size and depth of objects to get a precise reading on their size.
The electronic digital caliper is an improvement on the traditional caliper in that it gives a very accurate reading on whatever it is you are measuring and displays it on an easy-to-read LCD screen.
As with other electronic devices there are a few buttons that change the settings on the LCD, but they are kept to a minimum and using the caliper is simplicity itself. Apart from the on/off switch you will find a reset button to set the display back to zero after you have taken your measurement. It is also possible to use this switch midway through a job to get a differential reading. Some digital calipers also come with a mode switch that will allow you to take your readings in either metric or in inches, depending on your preferred measurement scale.
A caliper is a precision instrument and the fact that you get a digital readout when you take a measurement allows you to find out the exact width, length or depth of whatever you are measuring. Just make sure you take your measurements with the jaws of the caliper properly positioned.
The only possible downside with using a digital caliper is that it requires a battery for the LCD screen to operate. Occasionally these batteries wear out and go flat so it is important to ensure that a spare battery is handy, a small price to pay. With some models of digital caliper the on/off switch is positioned in a place where it can be accidentally bumped, switching the caliper on and running the battery down so you should also be careful in how it is stored in the toolbox.
You should find that an electronic digital caliper will only increase your efficiency and effectiveness in the workshop.
