3 Great Methods of Keeping Birds Away From Your House

While most people will agree that birds are beautiful animals, there are certain situations where humans and birds don’t get along so well. Birds are perfectly fine in trees and other natural areas, but when they congregate on your porch or balcony, this usually isn’t a good thing. Some people get really frustrated by birds making lots of noise and leaving their droppings all over the nice clean patio floor. Other people even get pooped on when birds are perched on railings overhead. Fortunately, there are a few great methods that we can use to keep birds in places they belong and away from your house. None of these will hurt the birds at all, and they only act to either scare them away or deter them from landing.

The first thing you can try is to get yourself some plastic bird spikes. These work great in places that birds like to perch, such as your awning or chimney. If you’re trying to keep birds off your chimney, a strip of bird spikes around the permit there will almost surely do the job. This works just as well for railings and fences.

Another way to keep birds at bay is to frighten them away. One of the best ways to do this is by getting a fake owl that looks surprisingly real. Set one of these up on your patio, and chances are your bird problem will be no more. This is actually one of the most inexpensive and effective solutions, and it doesn’t include using ugly plastic bird spike strips or nets.

Finally, if you are having a major problem with birds frequenting your house or other area, you might need to resort to other measures. You can get what is called a bird repeller to keep birds away from a large area. These electronic devices let out calls that tell birds to fly away. Birds naturally have distress calls, and these repellers record them and play them back at regular intervals. Although they will cost you quite a bit more money than spikes or fake owls, they will work in places that other deterrents won’t.
